Round Orange Lights Over Crewe Cheshire UK

Date: February 26, 2010
Time: 10:15 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Crewe, Cheshire.
Number of witnesses: 3
Number of Objects: 5
Shape of Objects: Round.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: I was coming home from the local pub and noticed round orange lights in the sky ahead of me, they obviously were not any kind of aircraft I know of. They were round and orange and when close up looked like fireballs. One would fly over stop for a few seconds and shoot off into the distance without making any noise, then another would follow and shoot off in the same direction as the other one.

I saw 5 doing the same thing, they were timed to perfection, my dad and one of my neighbours also saw it happening, the only thing I think they could be are Chinese lanterns, whatever they were it was mesmerizing to watch.

Orange Fireball Fly's Through The Sky Over Grantown On Spey Scotland UK

Date: February 14, 2010
Time: Evening.

Location of Sighting: Grantown on Spey Scotland.
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of Objects: 1
Shape of Objects: Roundish.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: My partner and I watched an orange fireball fly through the sky for several minutes before it disappeared. I saw it first and called my partner out to see it (I knew he wouldn't believe me.) We watched as it flew in the air in complete silence. Neither of us have seen anything like it before. I read in the local newspaper about someone from Nairn seeing this object at the same time as us. The town of Nairn is just 23 miles away so we probably saw what he saw.

6 - 7 Bright Orange Red Lights Over Pontarddulais Swansea UK

Date: February 25, 2010
Time: 6:50 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Pontarddulais, Swansea.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of Objects: 6 -7
Shape of Objects: Orb.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: As I was approaching Pontarddulais (Swansea) from Pontlliw earlier this evening, I noticed 2 very bright orange/red lights in the sky. At first, I thought they might be police search helicopters as they didn't seem to be moving. But then I noticed that they were moving, but at a very slow pace in my direction. I stopped the engine of my car to look and to listen as they were about to fly overhead, but to my amazement, there was no sound.

Then, I quickly noticed yet another similar orb of light come from the same direction, followed by another and another - about 7 or 8 in total, but as I tried to follow them to see where they were going, they just seemed to disappear into thin air! Can anyone throw some light (please pardon unintended pun here!) on this for me. I am totally intrigued.

UFO "Fireball" Mystery

By Donald Wilson
Published: 25 February, 2010

A VALENTINE'S Day UFO sighting in a Highland town has appeared on a website run by a researcher of paranormal events.

The mystery "orange fireball" spotted in the skies above Nairn sounds similar to other strange objects reported to the Highland News recently.

And it comes as the Ministry of Defence last week released its full archive of reported UFO sightings - after being inundated with Freedom of Information requests.

1956 Golden Ball Shaped UFO Seen By Thousands Basildon Essex UK

Date: Summer 1956.
Time: Mid afternoon.

Location of Sighting: Basildon Essex.
Number of witnesses: Thousands across the country.
Number of Objects: 1
Shape of Objects: Round, ball-shaped.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: Cycling through Basildon, I saw a golden ball shaped object in the sky. I stopped and was able to watch it for about one to one and a half minutes travelling in a south, to north direction in a straight line. Difficult to gauge it's height not knowing its size, but roughly about 15,000 to 20,000 feet. The sky was clear blue with no other aircraft in sight and no sound.

The following day, it was headlines in the Daily Mirror and several other newspapers. It was seen from the Channel Islands to Manchester and Liverpool where it was seen to suddenly accelerate at an extremely high speed at a sharp angle to its flight path and disappear.

9 Bright Orange Lights Traveling Over Glasgow Scotland

Date: February 20, 2010
Time: 7:30 p.m.

Brian, last night at 7:30pm 20/2/10 there were 9 or so bright orange lights travelling at speed over Glasgow. They were all heading in the same direction, then at the same spot in the sky they seemed to head upwards until out of view. It was a still frosty night, with virtually no cloud cover.

Their were a couple of aircraft in the sky also. They must have seen these and reported them. Also they had no sound from them. I took a picture and captured 3 of them, but they are distant and you have to zoom in on the picture to see them. See picture attached.

Orange Fiery Balls Of Light Over Mier Park Stoke On Trent UK

Date: February 20, 2010
Time: 10:30 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Mier Park Stoke On Trent
Number of witnesses: 4
Number of Objects: 2
Shape of Objects: Round and orange.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: We was watching TV when all of a sudden my wife looked out the window and said, what's that in the sky. We all started looking out the window and first we saw one orange fiery ball going at a steady speed, but it was quicker than a plane. Then another one appeared and followed it at the same speed. I quickly grabbed my camera and went upstairs and took two photos, which I have got for proof.

At first we thought they were planes, but when have you ever seen a round plane. Then we thought they could of been hot air balloons, but air balloons can't travel at the speed of which these orange balls were traveling at. We also thought they could off been shooting stars, but these where going in a straight horizontal line and then they vanished going upwards towards the sky.

Spherical Bright Orange Lights Over Romford Essex UK

Date: January 1, 2010
Time: Between midnight and 1:00 a.m.

Hi Brian, this email is regarding your blog from Friday, January 8, 2010 "Orange Balls Of Light Over London UK (Pictures)"

I live in Romford, Essex. I would like to report and confirm similar observations made between midnight and 1:00am on 01 January 2010.

The sky was clear and there were no planes preparing to land at that time. Me and my girlfriend, we could clearly see spherical, bright orange lights at least 5 of them, approaching form different directions southeast, east and north and heading south west. They appeared to fly at relatively low altitude, so if they were planes or helicopters I could clearly hear engine noise.

They did not make any noise at all, as if they were gliding. Also they did not flash any warning lights. They were moving with the same speed, although keeping some the distance from each other.Unfortunately I could not take any pictures, as I was quite astonished in the first instance, but moreover I do not have good enough camera. Hopefully this email will prove helpful. Best regards.

Orange Light In The Sky Over Erskine Close To Glasgow Airport

Date: February 14, 2010
Time: Approx: 6:55 p.m.

Hi Brian, While walking home from work on the 14th February I saw an orange light in the sky. I watched it for a few minutes as it moved slowly in a small circle and then climbed up through the cloud and out of view. At first I thought it might be a helicopter, but there was no sound from it?

The orange colour seemed a bit odd too, I'm used to seeing helicopters buzzing about here in Erskine searching for people who jump off the bridge (a common occurrence) they never glow orange and always make a lot of noise. (The helicopters I mean not the jumpers) It's strange as Erskine lies close to Glasgow Airport. I wonder if it was picked up by the tower? The time must have been about 6.55pm. Regards.

Orange Balls Of Fire Seen Over Two Nights At Clase Swansea UK

Date: February 19 and 20, 2010
Time: Approx: 7:00 p.m.

I saw one orange light yesterday in the sky about 7:00pm, it looked like a ball of fire and myself and my husband and two teenage children saw another 5 tonight about the same time. They seemed to glow again as if they were on fire and two of them seemed to hover up and down and change speed.

Two seemed to have what looked like a smaller orange cloud falling from them and when the lights stopped looking as if they were on fire, it left a complete grey smoke like blob in the sky, but only for a few seconds. Any ideas what this might be. At the moment my husband is outside trying to see if he can see anymore with his small telescope and the area we spotted the lights was at Clase, Swansea.

Huge Ball Of Fire In Daylight Hours Seen Over England UK

Date: February 14, 2010
Time: 11:00 a.m.

Hi, I live no where near you at all, I'm actually from England. But on the 14th February 2010, at 11:00am, I seen a huge ball of fire, it was in day light though. I first thought it was a helicopter on fire falling from the sky, which left a white trail where it fell. Then it just disappeared and then a small star-like object fell from the sky. Then as each one faded another would appear, about 4 all together. I've Googled it, but nobody has reported anything where I live. Did you find out anything?

Formation Of Dim Objects 2 Degrees East Of Due North

Date: February 18, 2010
Time: 3:45 a.m.

Location of Sighting: 2 degrees east of due north.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of Objects: 3
Shape of Objects: Perfect isosceles triangle of dim stars.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: I walk to work every weekday morning at the same time starting due north from my house and saw a formation of dim stars approx. 10 degrees up from the north horizon and a couple of degrees east of north, in a perfect triangle pointing perfectly toward the northern horizon. This was the first time I witnessed this set of stars and being a perfect triangle caught my attention.

This is the second time I have witnessed something in the morning north sky. The previous sighting was on Aug. 24, 2009 which was also a 3 star formation only in a perfect line at the same distance apart as the triangle. This was reported to NUFORC as it was moving.

Two Balls Of Light Seen From A90 Past Glendoick Scotland

Date: February 17, 2010
Time: Approx: 5:30 p.m. (Dusk)

Location of Sighting: A90 south looking towards Perth.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of Objects: 2
Shape of Objects: Ball.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: Hi Brian, I saw two balls of light last night as I was driving home, that match your description of lights over Perth (7 Jan 2010). I was driving on the A90 and was just past Glendoick looking towards the rocky outcrop that is just before Friarton Bridge (the one with the monument at the top). Two lights came over the top of the rocky outcrop, moved around a bit and veered over to my right and disappeared out of view.

It was not quite dark (dusk). Each light moved in a manner you'd expect from a helicopter or micro-light, but couldn't see any form or outline of an aircraft. The lights moved independently. They did not flash as you'd expect from an aircraft. And moving independently they were obviously not two lights on one craft (ie: one on each wing). I'm not very good at judging height, but I have seen hot air balloons come over that hill in the summer, and these lights were at a similar height. Sorry - not much more I can tell you as I was driving and they didn't stay in view for very long.

5 Red Lights Observed Over Romiley Near Stockport UK

Date: February 12, 2010
Time: Approx: 6:15 p.m.

Hi, my name is (name removed). On Friday the 12/2/10 at approximately 6.15 in the evening I was travelling home and as I joined the M60 from the M67 at Denton heading toward Stockport I noticed 5 red lights seemingly to be hovering over head.

They were moving slowly in no formation and then one disappeared, the rest carried on hovering. I could not stop longer as I was on the hard shoulder. Later that evening in Romiley near Stockport I spotted 3 more this was about 9:00 pm.

Then on Sunday as I was leaving Boysnope Golf club in Irlam saw another 2 both hovering but no engine noise. I stopped and pointed them out to my partner we watched then one moved away. As I arrived home I noticed one directly above are home slowly moving but no engine noise. Can you explain what they are please? Regards.

Object Appeared To Be Burning Seen Over Horwich Bolton Lancashire England UK

February 16, 2010
Time: Approx: 8:00 p.m.

Tuesday 16th February at approx: 8:00pm local time flying north over Horwich, Bolton, Lancashire, England.

It looked almost as if it was burning and there was no detectable noise. At first I thought perhaps it was a Chinese lantern, but it wasn't floating aimlessly, it was definitely moving in a straight line at a fairly steady and swift pace, perhaps as fast as a helicopter might do. I ran in for my binoculars, but by the time I had got them it was out of range and had gone into cloud.

I have never witnessed anything like it before and if it was a "lantern" then it must have been under some form of propulsion. There was no significant wind at the time, in fact it was quite still.

Regards.

Two Bright Orange Lights Over The United Kingdom

Date: February 14, 2010
Time: 11:45 p.m.

Location of Sighting: United Kingdom.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of Objects: 2
Shape of Objects: Ball-like.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: I was outside having a cigarette late last night and saw 2 very bright orange lights. The weather conditions were very clear and there were no clouds.

I saw looked up and saw 2 very bright orange balls of light moving northwards. To start with, they kept an equal distance from one another, although as they were both moving in the same direction. They got closer and closer. They almost seemed to collide, but one kept moving north, whilst the other seemed to "peel-off" and move northeast. I watched them for probably 5-10 minutes before I lost sight of them behind other houses.

They both seemed to be pretty high up in the atmosphere, but the light was still very bright, almost like the brightness of a streetlight bulb. They made absolutely no sound and it was late at night in a fairly quiet area, so I would have been able to hear it.

Three Circular Bright Glowing Objects Seen Over Fairlop Waters Essex UK

Date: Summer 2009
Time: 10:00 - 11:00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Fairlop Waters Essex.
Number of witnesses: 4
Number of Objects: 3
Shape of Objects: Circular.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: Whilst angling at the Fairlop site last summer, some friends and myself became aware of 3 circular objects that in 1 minute were glowing very brightly and the next dimming down, before moving into different positions in the sky. They didn't appear to be forming any definitive pattern, but were definitely not unusual. This activity naturally caused some debate amongst those present, all present agreed they were not aircraft.

We have all lived in the area for sometime and it is a stacking area for commercial airliners. We are well aware of what these type of planes look like in the air. This went on for around 30 minutes before being filed away in the memory. Now imagine my shock earlier today when a friend of mine told me about this website and in particular a report of lights viewed in the sky from forest road in February 2009. It sounded a pretty similar incident.

Orange Lights On Numerous Nights Over Knightswood Glasgow Scotland UK

Re orange lights, two over Knightswood Glasgow Christmas night. Three of us seen them, two lights moving northeast to southwest then appearing to ascend and vanish. Two weeks later at approximately the same, again only seen by myself in the east end of Glasgow moving roughly north.

Two lights seen last night by myself and my girlfriend. They were seen from the flat window, east end of Glasgow moving roughly in an easterly direction.

Orange Glowing Light Over Nairn Scotland UK

Date: February 14, 2010
Time: 8.00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Nairn.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of Objects: 1
Shape of Objects: Round.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: I was travelling home from Aberdeen and was nearly approaching the east of Nairn when I spotted a orange glowing light to my left. I looked a few times and just instantly thought it was extremely weird. I turned up the Grantown road to try to get closer and once on the dark country road, I cut my engine.

In darkness I opened my door and lifted myself to the top of my van and just observed in quiet amazement at what I was seeing, an orange fireball like object travelling in a perfect line north-north-east, complete silence, no engines, no rotors, no nothing, but this amazing orange fireball object. The object went behind a cloud and I didn't see it again.

I reported it to Nairn police station when I got home. I checked the internet to see if it was on the news or something and I cannot believe the amount of exact same sightings on the internet. It is definitely not a Chinese lantern, nothing even like it. The orange flame like light was even throughout the object and flew at speed and if pressed I would say at between 1000 - 3000 feet.

Orange Balls Of Light Over Alloa Scotland‏

Date: February 7, 2010
Time: Approx: 8:00 p.m.

Hi Brian, I was wondering if you could explain this sighting to us.

It was on February 7th at around 8.00pm when we saw these strange orange balls of light over Alloa. It was a silent night and clearly wasn't an aeroplane or helicopter, there was three of them in the sky. They all flew in from different directions and joined up in perfect formation (they gathered in a perfectly straight line) and flew some distance until they disappeared into the night sky (I wasn't alone in seeing them as my mum and grandparents also saw the lights).

We have also seen the lights before on Christmas Day at around 7.00pm when there was only one in the sky, could you explain this strange phenomenon to us ? We believe strongly in Aliens and Paranormal activity and were wondering if we had spotted potential aliens. Thanks.

Hi, My wife and I have just seen 5 bright orange/red lights over Swansea Bay. First there was one, then 2, then another 3 joined. They remained as a sequence of 5 lights for about 2 minutes and then started fading away. There was no sound in the sky. Astonished.

Orange Light Over Warmley Bristol UK

Date: February 9, 2010
Time: 9.15 p.m. - 9.30 p.m.

Hi, On February 9, 2010 – 9.15 p.m. -9.30 p.m. bright orange light was spotted by me and my two children moving across the sky in a straight line. There was no lighting configuration to suggest an aircraft and there was no noise of a propulsion system.

About 15 minutes later I saw the object again approaching from a different direction, seemingly lower. It passed overhead soundlessly and curved round off into the horizon.

The object appeared to be under intelligent control and propelled and guided, but was unlike anything I have ever witnessed.

Huge Glowing UFO Over Highters Road Warstock Birmingham West Midlands UK

Date: Around 1969 - 1970
Time: Before 11:00 p.m.

I mailed you about a sighting on New Years eve in Winscombe, but this is not my only sighting. In about 1969-70 in Highters road, Warstock, Birmingham, West Midlands I was going home in my car just before 11:00pm at night as that was my curfew time at home, so I cannot forget.

As I came up the hill near home all of the rooftops around my home glowed orange. I thought a house was on fire. I quickly pulled up and got out of my car. Above the house was a large round orange ball about as big as a house or more. As I looked up, it just shot towards 5 blocks of flats that were there and then and disappeared as fast as the blink of your eye and no sound. Just thought you should know.

Orange Lights Over Ammanford Carmarthenshire UK (Chinese Lanterns)

Date: February 11, 2010
Time: Approx: 7:30 p.m.

Hello Brian, I have just come across your blog after putting in a search on UFOs, as I saw 2 orange lights in the sky over Ammanford (Carmarthenshire) last night - 11th Feb 2010 and wondered if anyone knew what they were. My friend rang me at about 7.30pm to say that 7 orange lights were over his house in Ammanford again (he saw them on Christmas day 2009 at around the same time and tried to video them - there were 10 then).

I live about 3 miles away on the mountain overlooking Ammanford and have an uninterrupted view. I looked outside after the phone call, and saw 2 orange lights over the town which I thought were stars - as it was a clear night, until they rose higher in the sky in a straight line and disappeared. There was no noise (and I can hear helicopters over the town quite clearly).

I then thought that they may be metallic balloons reflecting the orange street lamps over Ammanford but my friend dismissed that idea, and I'm not sure I'd be able to see balloons from that distance.
Also, I've just come across an article where a lot of people saw them last year over Ammanford during a blackout, so I suppose I'm just clutching at straws really, trying to find a rational (non alien) explanation.

They may be Chinese lanterns, as someone here has suggested, as I think it is around the start of the Chinese New Year (10th Feb ?) and I notice that you saw them on New Year's Eve and my friend saw them on Christmas Day. Perhaps someone in the area celebrates these occasions by releasing them. I hope so. Thank you for your blog - it's interesting reading.

10-15 Red/Orange Lights Northeast Of Glasgow Scotland UK

Date: February 13, 2010
Time: 10:30 p.m.

Starting at 2230hrs I saw approx 10-15 red / orange lights NE of Glasgow.

They were primarily in an 'A' shape formation, drawling a large A in the sky, with two trailing behind them by about 2-3 miles, moving south at what looked to be approx 150 knots at approx 5-10 kilometers away from my vantage point at Latitude 55.855588, Longitude -4.215102.

It was fairly hard to determine distance and speed, but as a pilot and plane spotter I'm used to looking at other aircraft in the sky. My first thought was that it might have been an air show display or some sort of military training mission. But I know Glasgow airspace very well and they were between 4000 - 10000 ft in the sky right inside the approach airspace for Glasgow Airport and there is no chance they would have been cleared for that and there is no military operations area near here.

I watched them for about 10 minutes then they entered/disappeared into a cloud and my view was obstructed, but the lights lit up the cloud somewhat. I tried to take pictures but the battery had gone flat in my camera.

Orange Colored Orb/Lights Over Dunfermline UK

Date: February 13, 2010
Time: Approx: 11:00 p.m.

Hi Brian, Just wanted to give you a heads up to more orange orbs in the sky in Dunfermline, I witnessed at least 4, they were appearing from over the horizon, flying up almost straight then disappearing. I then saw more come up and 2 arced over to the left, one appeared to follow the other one whilst another went the other way.

They could have been the same ones repeating or totally new ones, am lost as to what they were and myself + neighbours witnessed them. I tried to catch them on my mobile but the video was useless as it never captured the light properly.

Anyway, yours was first post in Google that I saw regarding similar sightings so I thought I would get in touch.

This happened approximately 23:00 13/02/20

4 witnesses.

4 - 10 objects seen.

Cheers.

5 Red Balls Of Light Over Plymouth Near The Barbican Area UK

Date: February 6, 2010
Time: Approx: 10:45 p.m.

On Saturday evening about 10.45 pm my Husband and Son we were just coming out of an Indian restaurant which is on the back streets behind Plymouth Aquarium. We had a taxi waiting to take us home. We were taken back by 5 red balls (very bright) and low going very slowly across the sky.

It was a very clear night with stars around. One of the balls was lagging behind a little bit but they were soon all together in a straight line. It was uncanny because there was no noise and they were going quite slowly. We did not have any camera's on us, but thought someone else may have seen them. We did not see them vanish across the sky as unfortunately we could not let the taxi wait any longer.

Orange Object Looked Like A Floating Fire Seen Over Hemel Hempstead UK (Chinese Lanterns)

Date: February 7, 2010
Time: Approx: 7:30 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Hemel Hempstead.
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of Objects: 2
Shape of Objects: Round/boomerang?

Full Description of Event/Sighting: I was coming back from the shop in Hemel Hempstead when my partner noticed a light in the sky. I said it was a plane, but after looking myself I could see no flashing lights, just what looked like something on fire high in the sky. It was orange and just looked like a small fire floating up high, it was not going particularly fast and just went at a steady pace in a straight line, it definitely was not a shooting star either.

We watched for about 30 seconds until it disappeared into the cloud. After about another minute, we saw another one, same speed and direction only this time I could clearly see what appeared to be something falling from it, like drips of fire were coming from it, there were about five or six of these drips, it was quite unnerving as it went over head. It appeared to be boomerang shaped and there was no noise at any time during watching these objects. I called my brother who is west London (Ealing) he asked if I saw an orange shooting star before, I had even said anything so I am assuming he saw the same thing. What are they?

Orange Balls Of Light Above Tregarth UK

Date: February 5, 2010
Time: 8:45 p.m.

Location of Sighting: United Kingdom.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of Objects: 4
Shape of Objects: Round.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: When I driving along the A5 towards Bethesda, Gwynedd from the direction of Bangor I noticed an orange kind of ball shaped in the sky in-front of me, but in the sky. I slowed down to watch, I then opened my window to have a clearer view and as it was passing slowly, another one came behind so I turned in a lay by and sat watching, then another one followed. At this point I turned my ignition off to listen for any noise and suddenly a larger one caught up and was travelling faster than the first three.

I was trembling and trying to ring my boyfriend to tell him to go out to the back of our house, thinking he would definitely see them in Tregarth, but it was too late and I didn't manage to get the camera on my mob to work! typical. As the lights were so bright I'm sure someone else must have seen these. They were above the Tregarth area going up north towards Anglesey.

If you hear that anyone else has seen them can you let me know please.

Orange Flame Like Light Over Poulton Le Fylde Towards Fleetwood UK

Date: February 5, 2010
Time: 10:00 p.m.

Hi Brian, My name is (name removed), me and my girlfriend were out on a walk about an hour ago when I spotted something out the corner of my eye. When we looked, we saw an orange flame like light in the sky heading north west over Poulton Le Fylde towards Fleetwood. I used to work on the airport and it was like no nav light I had ever seen, there was no repetitive pattern to how it flared.

We watched it go off into the distance at quite a rate and though the clouds covered it, we could distinctly make it out again once it flared. My girlfriend thought it might be a comet, but I don't think it would have such a sustained burn. Have you had any interesting findings?

Chinese Lanterns Observed Over Sheffiled Chesterfield UK

Date: December 31, 2009
Time: Before midnight and afterwards.

Wish someone would look into these lights. I've seen them on two occasions, my mum witnessed them New Years eve too. I've seen other reports, numerous ones on the net for Sheffiled Chesterfield and over various places witnessing them. I'd put it down to Chinese lanterns, but they all seem to follow the same line and too far apart to be tied together, well some of them are. Tuesday night I saw over 12. I've heard one report of over 50. I saw two just before New Years and my mum saw up to a dozen on New Years eve.

Any idea what these lights are? I felt I could hear an humming sound, like a dull bi-plane, but not enough noise for what you would expect to come from 12 of them. Something weird is going on and I've seen a video on Youtube of them over Chesterfield and Newcastle looking exactly like what I saw, but more sporadic in the sky. The ones I saw apart from about 3 of them, seemed to follow the same line in the sky.

Hope this helps with other reports you been having on these lights, but I can best explain them looking like street lights following each other in the sky.

Orange Disc Shaped Object Garforth UK

Date: February 2, 2010
Time: Approx: 6:40 p.m.

I've just seen an orange disc shaped object in Garforth! It was coming over the house then stopped and started to rise, it kept going until it vanished, it was huge and very bright! I saw your post on web, do you know what it was?

Additional Information:

Hi, It was tonight at approx 6:40pm, I just looked out of the window upstairs and it was there coming towards me, I went to the window at the back of the house as I expected it to go over the top of the house it didn't so I went back it had moved to the right then just started to rise getting smaller until I couldn't see it anymore. It was very bright, red /orange with flames it was more rounded at the top. I can't stop thinking about it, I've never seen anything like it! A friend suggests a Chinese lantern, but I've seen those and it wasn't one of those this looked far, far too big and too many flames.
Any ideas?

Hi, Just to add to what I saw, a colleague of mine saw the same image at 10:15pm in Rothwell. There were also a lot of aircraft in the sky following this last night in the same place I saw this and they appeared to stay in the same place all night.
