Red/Orange Ball Of Light Like Fire Seen Over Dartmouth Devon UK

Date:  December 28, 2011
Time:  5:30 p.m.

Hi Brian, have just found and read your posting as we were searching for information about something we have seen.

We are in Dartmouth Devon and on Wednesday evening at 5.30 just as darkness fell I caught a glimpse through a window of a ball of light moving across the valley.
Quickly going outside we saw a red/orange ball of light, like a ball of fire, traveling in complete silence, but with seeming intention down the valley in the direction of the river Dart.

It hovered for a minute or two over the church, and then crossed the river getting smaller as it went into the distance until we could no longer see it.

It was not very high, about the height a helicopter flies at (we often have helicopters from the Naval College flying around but this was not one - it seemed to float)

This does not fit with the erratic movements of what you describe, but we have never seen anything quite like this although we have seen other strange things, but not here, and wonder what it was. You mention Chinese lanterns, what are they and do you think this was one?

If not what, and we wonder if anyone else in Dartmouth saw it. Looking forward to hearing from you.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
