5 Eyewitnesses Observe A Red/Orange Light Over Mundesley Norfolk UK

Date: December 26, 2009
Time: 6:15 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Mundesley, Norfolk.
Number of witnesses: 6
Number of Objects: 1
Shape of Objects: Flickering bright red/orange light.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: Group of 5 people plus one separate person saw bright flickering red/orange light traverse the sky from SW to NE direction in approx. 2 minutes. Light faded from view, as if getting more distant on straight line trajectory, but could also have gone behind thin partial cloud cover. Some stars visible and bright half-moon.

Light was as bright as an aircraft landing light, but wrong colour. No noise heard at all (in a quite village with no traffic). All observers thought it was "like a flame", but there was no trail, just a light. Traverse was quite slow. Not an aircraft, meteor or satellite.

Best conventional guess: high altitude military jet or missile on afterburner, but am a private pilot and have been observing aircraft for 40+ years and have never seen anything like this. Was encouraged to add this entry by several similar sightings in UK on Xmas Day / Boxing Day and keen to hear any explanation.
