Date: January 7, 2005 Time: Approx: 11:25 p.m.
Dear Brian, I live in the inner western suburbs of Sydney and while it is relatively built up the sky of late has been remarkably clear. I was standing outside in my backyard when I noticed a sudden flash in the sky to the South at approximately 60 degrees. As I looked in this direction the flash reappeared and continued to flash intermittently on a further seven occasions. The light travelled in a northerly direction covering a further 60 degree arc before disappearing in mid-air.
The flashing object emitted a brilliant white strobe-like light not unlike a camera flash. No other lights were noticeable and there was absolutely no sound at all. The reason it was particularly noticeable is that over the city there is a no-flight curfew from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. for all aircraft excepting military and emergency services aircraft. This object certainly did not fit the profile of any of these aircraft. While I was unable to discern a vehicle per se it would appear to have been at a height of about 5000 feet. Thank you.
Kind regards.
Thank you to the witness for the report.
