Orange Light Over Blue Bell Hill Chatham UK (Chinese Lantern)

Date: January 1, 2011
Time: 1:00 a.m.

Hi Brian, Thanks for your reply. I saw the orange light in the sky for myself tonight at 1:00am and yes I saw straight away that it was one of those Chinese Lanterns. I live near Bluebell Hill Chatham and we do get odd things in the skies so when my dad then my hubby said what they saw I hoped it might have been something of some credibility. Never mind. Thanks again for your reply.

Unmanned Hot Air Balloon Over Belfast Ireland (Chinese Lantern)

Date: October 24, 2010
Time: Approx: 7:30 p.m.

As reported last night 23rd October 2 sightings of a then strange object in the sky over Belfast, coming out of the west and altering course overhead to a southerly direction before disappearing. Tonight 24th October, a similar object was observed moving from north to south. At ground level there did not seem to be any noticeable wind, yet it seemed to moving at a fair rate of knots.

This time I was able to view it through a pair of 10x50 binos. What I saw was an unmanned Hot Air balloon. I could see the burner.

The time was about 19.30 and it would be hard to give a size as I could not estimate its altitude, but it was a very bright object in the dark sky which appeared to be much higher than aircraft using our local airports.

Orange Light Over Eliburn Livingston UK (Chinese Lantern)

Date: October 14 and 15, 2010
Time: 10:40 p.m.

Hi Brian,I have in the last 2 nights 14th + 15th October 2010 witnessed a strange orange light moving quite fast over Elburn Livingston. The first was Wednesday 14th about 2240 hrs travelling north to south right across the flight path I was gob smacked, then a aircraft took off from edi it looked like they were going to collide. I had a cold shiver down my back. I always go out for a ciggy at this time before I go to bed. Then last night 15th same time I saw another one going east to west.

Very odd.

My only explanation is a lantern that people light, never seen one before but what I have seen looks to be very bright orange. Regards.

Chinese Lantern Lands In Park At Bradford UK

Date: September 4, 2010
Time: Evening.

Hi, just to let you know, I have just seen 3 lights just like yours. I think they may be hot air balloons, also last night two others passed over, but seems to do large circles covering a few miles before disappearing in the same direction as tonight's. The general direction is the same as following the M606. and Cleckheaton Road.

The unusual thing tonight was one of the three was in a slightly different direction and much lower. I don't know how hot air balloons can navigate a circle, but last nights did. They weren't aircraft of any other type as they were silent and the light was orange. My son has just come in and it seems one has landed in our park. It was some sort of lantern with a fire lighter? underneath. The circles yesterday must have been the winds.

Mystery solved! I think it may be something to do with Chinese celebrations.

Posted: April 13, 2009

Date: January 25, 2009
Time: 0:40 a.m.

Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Sphere.
Weather Conditions: Scattered clouds and no wind. The temperature: Minus 1 degree Celsius.

Description: My father saw an orange object flying in an east to west direction. He then alerted me. The object flew very slowly. And, no sound could be heard from the object, when I went outside to get a better view. The object flew in a steady horizontal path. Suddenly the orange light dimmed and the light on the object was turned off or it disappeared in a cloud. The duration of the sighting was approximately 3 minutes. I noticed that the neighbor's dog barked intensely, as long as the object was in sight. The dog stopped to bark, when the object disappeared.

Update:

The witness states: "The unknown object, which was observed over Kleive has been found to be a lantern."

Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Orange star shape, looked like something on fire at first.
Weather Conditions: Clear with some light cloud.

Description: I was outside walking towards my outbuilding, we live in the country so it is very dark. I noticed an orange light rising in the direction on Inskip, I thought it looked unusual due to the colour of it. It rose up steadily silent at all times, it was not a plane or helicopter. I called my wife from my mobile to come outside, when I pointed up to where it was it had moved a fair distance in a spilt second, it the moved across the sky steadily and disappeared above us. It was silent at all times. My wife describes it looking like a lantern.
