Time: 10:35 p.m.
Location of Sighting: Between Lancing and Worthing, Sussex, UK.
Number of witnesses: 1 (but hope there are others out there who saw this thing)
Number of Objects: 1
Shape of Objects: Silver/White Ball/orb.
Full Description of Event/Sighting: Outside having a quick ciggie before bed, I was looking at the stars when out the corner of my eye I noticed what appeared like a large star, but it was moving, heading from West to SouthEast direction.
At first I thought it must be a plane or satellite or something, but quickly realised that the other aircraft in the sky had blinking lights and also, this seemed much higher up than any aircraft, was travelling much faster, and was heading away from me, so could not have been aeroplane lights. Nor a helicopter, as it was way, way higher then they fly (and I'm used to seeing helicopters around here and know how they look from various angles etc). Yet I wasn't convinced it was anything much out of the ordinary.
I carried on watching for a few minutes, finishing my cig, expecting it to just go on into distance out of sight, when it suddenly doubled right back on itself, did a 180 degree turn and travelled back Westwards, towards the same spot I first noticed it, then started coming closer towards my area. It was now moving much more slowly. This was when I realised it was something unusual.
I was about to dash inside to grab my camera when it suddenly stopped, lit up really brightly and expanded in size, into a huge silver/white ball, at least 5 or 6 times bigger than original. Compared to the largest star nearby, this object was now huge (about size of a golf ball held at arms length).
I was dumbstruck. Still am.
It stayed like this for only five seconds or so, then returned to its original smaller size and then turned to North East direction. It disappeared after approx 15 minutes. I stayed outside for a further 30 mins or so, to see if it returned, but nothing. This really was utterly extraordinary. It was totally silent and really did seem to be scouring the area, changing directions several times.
I do hope some other folks witnessed this, as it would have been absolutely impossible not to see it had anyone else been looking skywards at the time in this area.
Thank you to the witness for their sighting report.

Worthing West Sussex, UK Brilliant Orange Colored Objects
Posted: February 15, 2009
Date: February 14, 2009
Time: 10:47 p.m.
Location of Sighting: Worthing West Sussex.Number of witnesses: 2Number of Objects: 3Shape of Objects: Round.
Full Description of Event/Sighting: I was called outside when a family member spotted a bright orange orb quite high up moving in an arc. Then a second and third appeared. They all vanished around the same point and the third one moves up down and then up a bit then carried on the same arc as the first and second and disappeared in the same place. It was such a brilliant flickering orange. We live under a flight path and that was not a plane or helicopter. At first we put it own to a flare but flares don't rise slowly and dance around like this did.
Thank you to the witness for their sighting report.

Worthing, England UK Ten To Twelve Object/Lights
Posted: February 3, 2009
Date: December 31, 2008/January 1, 2009
Time: Around Midnight
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 10 -12
Shape of objects: Orange orbs.
Weather Conditions: Clear, bright.
Description: I too saw the display in Worthing on New Year's Eve. I watched them through binoculars and am certain that someone was letting off 'fire balloons'. They rose in batches, then a few stray singles followed. They were very beautiful and eerie, floating over. The wind currents can make them drift, stop then suddenly shoot off. I think 90% of the 'orange orbs' mentioned round Xmas and New Year are these.
HOWEVER - some might not be! The frequency with which people are reporting probable fire balloons may be the result of an attempt to fuzz the UFO/et issue. But it might have the opposite effect, as more people think they've seen a UFO or UFOs and are then more open to having an actual sighting. Keep watching the skies! The next lot might be genuine.

Worthing, West Sussex, England Large Orange Orbs In Formation
Posted: January 10, 2009
Date: January 1, 2009
Time: Between 12.15 to 1.05 a.m.
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: 10
Shape of objects: Large orange orbs, flying in formation.
Weather Conditions: Freezing, fairly clear sky, no wind or breeze, dark night.
Description: I was outside with my partner, welcoming in New Year and watching fireworks over the rooftops nearby, when we noticed 3 large orange orbs flying towards us, high overhead, just inland of the sea, moving directly East to West. They moved at constant speed but in a clear triangle formation. They were large orbs or balls, and bright orange in colour. They appeared to be flying as high as usual commercial aircraft would over this area, estimate maybe 15,000ft, but with no sound or blinking of lights (we're both very familiar with various aircraft lights, living on flight-paths of Gatwick, Heathrow and a small local airport). These were much, much larger than aircraft lights, and much brighter, steady orange lights.
Given the height they were at, they must have been of considerable size!
They reached a certain point in sky, still over the coastline, almost directly in line with the house, then seemed to shoot upwards and vanish one after another.
Several minutes later, another 3 appeared from same direction, and followed exactly the same sequence and triangle formation, reaching the same point in sky, in line with the house, then suddenly moved upwards and vanished.
I took a short video on the mobile phone, but it has not captured them anywhere near as clearly as could be seen with naked eye. I took a few still pics also, but these have come out as showing the objects as white circles or disc shaped, and not as clear or bright as what we could see ourselves.
We couldn't take our eyes off them, even though we were freezing cold and would rather have gone back into the warm house, we stood there discussing what we had seen. My partner is very logical and analytical and tried to find a possible rational explanation but couldn't find any to fit what we saw.
We were still stood discussing it when another 3 appeared, and again they followed the same path and formation before moving upwards vertically and vanishing, one by one, in the same spot. Then a final one, travelling alone, and seemingly much brighter and larger than the previous ones flew over. This too disappeared upwards in same location.
There was no wind, and no logical explanation for the triangle formation, flight path nor the sudden upwards movement before vanishing. They were definitely not fireworks, and from the size, height, speed, flight path and formation (and sudden upwards movement before vanishing) they definitely weren't balloons, planes or helicopters. We did wonder if they could be something related with the military, but we are within commercial airspace here, and even then we could not work out what sort of military craft could disappear so suddenly like these things did, or move so silently.
We were both 100% sober (non-drinkers), nor are we taken to flights of fancy. My partner has never seen a UFO before. I've had one brief daylight UFO sighting in the past, witnessed by others, but am not a UFO spotter or anything of that ilk.
Later on, we joked about not going outside alone in case one of us was "beamed up", we were only joking about it, as neither of us is afraid of being outside in the dark or anything like that, however, the fact is we were both a bit spooked by it. There was a strange and eerie feel about the whole thing. We both felt (independently of each other) almost as if maybe we had been spotted, or had been watched by these things, before they disappeared in the same spot above the house. We each had a sense that maybe they were watching us as much as we were watching them! Sounds strange, but true.
It's certainly given us something to ponder in 2009!
There may be plenty of other people who saw them? It was New Year, so quite likely a few folks were outside watching fireworks? Would be good to know if anyone else saw these unidentified flying orange lights!
-----
UFOINFO Note: As with other similar reports I asked the witness to have a look at the UFO Balloons website to see if this is what might have been seen and received the following reply:
Hello,
I did check the balloons video. It's possible this is what we saw, but I wouldn't have expected balloons to fly in such exact formation, nor suddenly ascend at exactly the same spot and vanish, especially with no wind, unless by large coincidence. Also, these looked more clearly like lights, as opposed to flames. But we'll keep an open mind. Best wishes!

Worthing, West Sussex UK Eight Bright Red Lights/Objects
Posted: January 5, 2009
Date: January 1, 2009
Time: 12.00 (midnight)
Location of Sighting: Worthing, West Sussex.
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: 8
Shape of objects: Round/oval.
Full Description of event/sighting: This is following on from the report posted on your website from Worthing on the 01st January. I too witnessed exactly the same sighting as already reported but with a slight variation. When the fireworks started at mid-night, I looked out of the window and saw a bright red light travelling across the sky. I went outside (along with my partner) and watched it come to a halt and then fade out. My partner returned indoors and I looked across to my right and saw another red light in a completely different part of the sky. I called my partner to come out again, but by the time she had done this the light had disappeared. Then suddenly, right above our house flew five red orbs exactly as previously reported, (a very surreal moment indeed) - followed a few moments later by a sixth object, which again flew right above the house. Everyone has said 'Lanterns', but I am not totally convinced and am pleased to see that others have the same feeling. Thank you for making me feel 'sane again'! Hope this helps and regards to all.
Thank you to the witness for their report.

Worthing, West Sussex, England Round Line Of Lights
Posted: November 12, 2008
Date: October 2008 (Various)
Time: Evening.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Round/line of lights.
Weather Conditions: Fine/dull cloud.
Description: Regarding a couple of previous sightings I posted, I think I may have mistaken the planet Jupiter for a UFO. I saw it again, told a friend who thinks it's a planet. Also I have realized that distortions happen, when viewing a point of light through a window pane with binoculars. Move the bins slightly and the point of light can look like a line of lights if you view the object through a flaw in the window-glass and/or at the edge of the field of vision. So - some Worthing UFOs may be solved. But I have definitely seen other, unusual looking moving lights. (Bright, flashing, but unlike helicopter and a stationary red line (viewed through open window) and two green 'fireballs'.

Worthing, West Sussex, England An Illumined Cylinder
Posted: November 6, 2008
Date: October 13, 2008
Time: 9:00 p.m.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Changing.
Weather Conditions: Clear with some cloud.
Description: I saw either the same light-object as previously seen on the 10th October. This time it was slightly to more West and an hour earlier. (I'll eat my hat, if it turns out to be a star!) But I doubt it is a star, as I had a good and more clear-headed look at it last night.
Shape: I think it's an illumined cylinder or long thin cone. I also think it was revolving, slowly, as it looked like a round light (the front end, two lights, (turned slightly) growing to a line. I don't know how far away it was; it looked about 1/2 centimeter, through window. It stayed in the same place again for about 20 minutes. I got up to look out of a different window and by the time I got there, it had vanished.
Colour: This, I don't understand. I have two sets of binoculars, both about X25 mag. Through one set, it appeared arc-light green. Through the other, bright but smoky orange. ????
I will try and find out if it's a blimp or some kind of tethered illuminated balloon or something. (But why would it get turned off at different times?) Without binoculars, it looked like a large, bright star.

Worthing, West Sussex, England An Odd Shaped Light
Posted: November 1, 2008
Date: October 10, 2008
Time: 10:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Changing.
Weather Conditions: Clear sky.
Description: Looking out of a north-west facing window, I first saw an odd shaped light, hard to describe. Like a cluster of small lights, bent like an L shape. Then it turned into a blue-white funnel shape, then became an orange-gold oblong light. It stayed like that for a while, then changed to an inverted V shape, then back to oblong then finally, to a round orb type shape that grew smaller and was gone when I finally checked at 10.30.
It was definitely not a fire balloon. (I've seen one of those.) I wondered if it was a helicopter, (police or air sea rescue) but they have a flashing light attached, and there was no flashing light with this. Also, it stayed in exactly the same spot for at least 20 minutes. Helicopters usually drift a bit, or circle. They run out of fuel fairly fast.
TV/Radio: No, nothing to my knowledge.

Worthing, Sussex, UK A Bright Orange Object
Posted: October 4, 2008
Date: September 6, 2008
Time: Approx: 8:30 p.m.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Bright orange star that became bigger behind cloud.
Weather Conditions: scattered cloud cover, thickening to full cloud.
Description: I was drawing the curtains, when I saw a small bright orange 'star' fairly low in the sky, looking north east. I looked through binoculars and it was just a point of orange light. It was stationary, for about 20 or so seconds, then it drifted slowly behind cloud. I continued to watch the place. After a while there was a brief glimmer of a much larger orange light that looked like it was made up of four or five lights in a cluster. Then it disappeared.
NB: I have seen a 'fire balloon' recently in Worthing, which seemed like a smoky orange star. That was nearer and through bins looked like a night-light inside 'jellyfish'. This seemed a long way away, did not flicker and seemed stationary. I think if it had been a balloon coming directly towards me, its size would have increased.
TV/Radio: No. Not that I've heard.

Worthing, Seamill Park Crescent, U.K. A Clearly Defined Orb
Posted: June 28, 2008
Date: June 23, 2008
Time: Approx: 5.00 p.m.
Location of Sighting: UK, Worthing, Seamill Park Crescent.
Number of witnesses: 2
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Clearly defined orb.
Full Description of event/sighting: At approx 5pm on Monday 23 June 2008, I was in the garden, chatting the phone and watching the birds and planes overhead as usual. It was a bright, sunny, late afternoon, almost totally clear blue skies with a reasonable Easterly wind , when I noticed something very strange in the sky.
It was extremely high up, way, way up above the commercial airlines passing overhead, yet somehow it was so clearly visible. It was a very clearly defined orange orb, not fuzzy or glowing or anything, just a bright orange ball in the sky.
I watched it for a few minutes, and it was making very peculiar movements, going slowly backwards and forwards (not in same direction as wind) and then stopping perfectly still and motionless before moving very slowly again. I was very perplexed, and a little spooked to be honest, as I just could not work out what on earth it was. It then stopped and remained very still. I wondered if I was maybe going crazy.. so I went and asked a nearby neighbor to come and have a look.
He also was totally perplexed. We watched it for approximately a further 5 minutes, trying to come up with every rational explanation we could think of (it was far too high and moving far too strangely to possibly be a Hot Air Balloon or Lantern or all the other possibilities we each tried to come up with, like a military plane or anything), but neither of us could solve what it was.
He said he'd never seen anything like it in his life. And neither had I. It kept moving, very slowly, then stopping perfectly still at random intervals. It then moved slowly directly South, towards sea, then just totally vanished out of thin air before our eyes.
I have never been a UFO type person, neither had he, but we were both transfixed by this thing and could not take our eyes off it. I tried to capture it several times on my mobile phone camera or video, but nothing seemed to be visible through that (maybe too high for a small camera phone?).
I suggested we report it, and he said people would think we were "crazy". But in the following days, I saw on BBC news that similar sightings had be made in the North of England (Liverpool) and Wales. So I decided to report it to the local Newspaper (Worthing Herald) , but they have not published anything thus far.
I'm a mature, rational, down to earth woman in my 40's, with a professional background, and my neighbor is also similar age and perfectly normal. Neither of us has had any previous interest or experience of UFO's.
With or without photo evidence, I know what I saw, witnessed by someone else, and now I am a firm believer that we are not alone in space!
Thank you to the witness for the good report.
