Location of Sighting: Cheltenham UK.

Number of Objects: 1
Shape of Objects: Orb (large).

Full Description of Event/Sighting: I live in Cheltenham UK. about half a km from the infamous UK head quarters G.C.H.Q. So it makes the sighting all the more curious. We are very close to the transatlantic flight path here, so I am very familiar with navigation lights and aircraft flight behavior. We also have a small airport near by (Staverton). I am a sky watcher probably due to a childhood sighting (adults present at time). My flat looks due SW and I have a good view of the surrounding hills. About 20:40 I happened to glance towards the South only to see a static light in (or above) the clouds.

At first I dismissed it as an aircraft either coming into land at Staverton or on it's way to the states, but something was wrong. It was nowhere near any paths and too low and not moving. It disappeared behind clouds. I got a glance of it once more when it was static and then it shot off towards the NW at a rate of knots. It must of been pretty big too and emitted it's own light. Clouds obscured my view for a large amount of the angle of sight.

To explain, I saw no navigation lights no fuselage (light was good enough) and the speed was fast enough to be viewed but too fast to be conventional. Ironically the object passed virtually over the top of G.C.H.Q the most secure communications and surveillance building in the country. I caught sight of it as it came out of the clouds it had changed course and now was heading due north. From the initial static sighting it crossed the sky in 15 seconds. I did my geek bit and timed a 747 on the flight path, it took nearly 5 minutes to travel same distance. What I saw was something out of the ordinary.
